“The work ‘Avoid direct Eye Contact’ was installed in Gallerie Galery, a home gallery in the South part of Rotterdam. It exists of an intervention in the living room and a live performance performed in a small room next to it. On a big tripod a laser light is mounted on a slowly rotating motor. The laser ‘floats’ horizontally just above the visitors’ heads following the walls, doorposts, books on a bookshelve etc., touching exactly some points and lines in the room. It disappears behind the curtain and comes back again. Simultaneously I’m sitting motionless in a chair in the other room while staring at a small hole in the wall. From the other side of the wall you could peek into the hole where you looked straight in my right eye. It was an act between meditation and intimidation, between making contact and avoiding it. To increase tension in the house and demand a concentration to observe details.
(duration of the performance 3,5 hours)”
